Annual WP Schools Day to take place
The 2012 Western Province Rugby Union Schools Day takes place at Newlands, the current home of the game in Cape Town, on Tuesday, 20 March.
The afternoon starts with four Under-9 mini-rugby games of 16 minutes duration, to be played concurrently, starting at 15.00.
These games feature:
Siyabulela vs Rondebosch Boys’ Junior
De Tyger vs Dennemere
Sweet Valley vs Mamre
Excelsior vs Dr GJ Joubert.
Next up, at 15.20, is a potentially attractive 30-minute Under-13 tussle between Stellenbosch Primary and crack Paarl unit Noord-Eind.
Come tea-time the Under-19 big guns take to the field for 40-minute matches, during which no goalkicking is allowed.
Fixtures:
15.55: De Kuilen vs DF Malan
16.40: Boland Landbou vs Durbanville
17.25: Tygerberg High vs Paarl Boys’ High
18.10: Paul Roos vs Paarl Gym
18.53: SACS vs Brackenfell
If last Wednesday’s games (played in a similar format out at Stellenbosch) are anything to go by, the middle three match-ups look set to be real humdingers. Paarl Gym, in particular, spearheaded by twins HP and Altus Momsen, have set tongues wagging with their 25-0 demolition of Swartland, while neighbours Boys’ High and Boland Landbou also gave remarkably good accounts of themselves.
Of course, for the spectators it’s a wonderful opportunity to experience the stadium secure in the knowledge that Wednesday is a public holiday.
