Armand Pieterse: Captain of Hangklip

Hangklip captain Armand Pieterse is determined to get revenge when his team take on Aliwal North in their Classic Clash on Saturday.

Pieterse was part of the team that "got a beating" at the hands of Aliwal North last year, so there is plenty of motivation to put the record straight this weekend.

"We misjudged them last year and got a beating, but we are not going there to lose this weekend and we want to bring the trophy back to Hangklip," he said.

Pieterse usually plays on the flank, but will start at lock as he eases himself back from a knee injury that he picked up at the end of last term.

He leads an inexperienced side that has just six Matrics and a Grade 10 playing at flyhalf, but he believes that their team spirit and faith in each other will give them the edge on Saturday.

"There are no enemies in our team and the guys back each other fully. We have a solid defence and a few exciting backs but the most important thing will be which team wants it most," he said.

Pieterse plans to study teaching at Kovsies next year and has his sights set on playing in the Varsity Cup for Shimlas, but for now his focus is on making a statement in Aliwal North on Saturday.
