Audrin van Schoor - Captain of Klein Nederburg

Player Profile

Klein Nederburg play great Paarl rivals New Orelans in an FNB Classic Clash at Faure Street Sportsgrounds on Saturday. Audrin van Schoor captains Klein Nederburg.

Playing in his second inter-school fixture against New Orleans, Audrin van Schoor says it would be an understatement to say this is one match he would dearly love to win. Having lost the annual derby 8-nil last year and in his final year of school he knows this is his chance to make a place for himself in local folklore.

Born in Paarl on 24 August 1987, where he attended Paulus Joubert Laerskool, Audrin has always played in the front row. Relatively new to the position of team captain (having only first become skipper in Under-15) his coach Christie de Kock says he is a good motivator who leads by example.

Although Audrin says his team’s strengths lay out wide with their speedy wings and dangerous fullback any rugby pundit worth his weight knows that derby games are usually won up front. Fortunately Audrin himself cites scrumming as one of his strengths, as well as his ability to take the ball over the advantage line. Coach De Kock also highlighted this aspect of his game as well as his potent tackling.

It seems Audrin is really going to have to lead his pack from the front come Saturday as New Orleans believe their powerful frontrow is their greatest asset.

Audrin’s rugby idol is New Zealander Richie McCaw. Although they play different positions and different types of games, Audrin admires McCaw’s discipline on the field and the way he always keeps his team on the front foot.

Audrin will remain in Paarl in 2006 and hopes to study internal auditing at the local college. First though he has to play the game of his life and etch his name in schoolboy rugby history!
