Beeld Trophy Final 2005

Match Preview

It's a final to crown a new Beeld Trophy winner and, being a final anything can happen an two of South Africa's top schools meet – Monument and Waterkloof, Monnas and Klofies.

They meet at Waterkloof because of the seeding within the competition which puts the Blue Bulls first.

Monnas had a tough semi-final against HTS Middelburg in Middelburg while Klofies had a much easier run-out at home against Transvalia.

Klofies have the advantage of the home ground and also the confidence from being the only team to have beaten Monnas this year.

There is extra pressure on Monnas as they are the No.1 side in the country and so expected to do well. Having lost to Klofies may motivate them further especially as they played against then the first time without the front tow, eighthman and both centres.

Monnas have played 19 matches this year, winning 18 and losing just the one. The manner of their winning has been almost extravagant at times, for example 76-8 vs Klerksdorp, 71-3 vs Maritzburg College, 72-7 vs DHS, 78-0 vs Roodepoort and scores of fifty against Glenwood and Florida.

Klofies have played 19, winning 11, drawing 1 and losing 7.

On the FNB Top 20, Monnas are first, Klofies tenth.
