Big Home win for Queen's
The match was played in warm and very windy conditions. The hosts started with a strong wind at their backs.
Cambridge had the first opportunity to open the scoring, but the penalty attempt was wide of the posts.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock after a great set piece move from a scrum saw Yaw Penxe across the whitewash. Justin Kuyler added the extra two points for a 7-0 lead.
The second try for the home team was scored after a short arm penalty was played quickly and Olwetu Foslag made a great break to offload to Raegan Oranje. The try was unconverted and the hosts were made to work hard for their 12-0 lead.
On the stroke of half time Queen’s once again decided to run a penalty from deep in their own half and they were rewarded for their adventurous play when Foslag scored an unconverted try. The hosts enjoyed a 17-0 lead at the break.
The second half started much like the first with both teams willing to attack at every opportunity. The first points of the second half were scored by Connor Dever after the nuggety scrumhalf made a great break and beat several defenders. The try was unconverted and Queen’s enjoyed a 22-0 lead. Cambridge, never a team to lie down, scored after a quick tap and go on the Queen’s line. The try was converted.
Aviwe Mancotywa scored the 5th try for the home team after a misdirected kick. Foslag made a jinxing run beating several would be defenders before offloading to winger Mancotywa. Kuyler added the extra two points for a 29-7 lead. Mihlali Peter scored the next try for Queen’s, after some patient phase play and some good linking by both forwards and backs. The try was unconverted. Cambridge would have the next say after setting up a great maul and then executing a great set piece move from the backs. The Cambridge kicker added the extra two points and the score was 34-14.
After several pick-and-drives on the visitor’s line, Lukhona Masoka, crashed over for the home team's 7th try. Kuyler added the extra two points from the touchline.
Some poor play from Queen’s from the kickoff allowed Cambridge to score their last try of the game.
At 41-19 Queen’s went back on the offensive and managed to score two more tries. The first try was from centre, Juan Du Randt, which was converted by Kuyler from the touchline and the second try was from Penxewho scored after a great individual effort. Queen’s won the game 58-19.
The game was played in difficult conditions but this did not hamper both teams' willingness to run the ball at every opportunity. The game was played in a good spirit and was a good advert for schoolboy rugby. Queen’s will now face Dale College in King William’s Town, this Saturday,
