Big win for Muir
Muir’s 1st XV ran in eight tries on their home field to take the game 59-3 against Woodridge. At the break Muir was leading 31-3 with fullback Ruben de Vos being on song with the boot.
De Vos opened the scoreboard with a penalty after forcing an error by the visitors. Muir ran in four tries during the half scored by inside centre Lunathi Nxele, wing Leigh-Angus Nell (2) and outside centre Mihlali Nobomvu. De Vos converted four out of four in gusty conditions. Woodridge replied with a penalty.
The second half saw the College run in four more tries through fly half Darren Wates, flanks Gary Karlin, wing Xolela Daniels and De Vos. De Vos again slotted four out of four. The windy conditions saw both teams make numerous handling errors and miss a few opportunities which could have resulted in a different score line.
Flank Sibabalwe Jikani had a standout game on defence forcing numerous turnovers and dominating his tackle situation.
The College backs ran superbly creating space with angled runs and dummy lines which was evidence with majority of them dotting down behind the white wash.
