Bishops Cross Over to Rondebosch

The two schools are close in many ways. They are nearly within shouting distance, have the same sort of staff, the same sort of boys with the same sort of parents, the same sort of keen Old Boys, for both schools have similar ways of working with similar ideals. And when neighbours meet on the rugby field with unpredictable outcomes, the matches are always that much more intense.

That said, although these schools meet twice a year with about 15 matches involving nearly a thousand boys each year, any untoward incidents are rare indeed, for it is an honourable rivalry.

Season So Far

Both schools’ 1st XVs have been doing a bit better than usual. Both are ranked on the Schools Top 20 – Bishops 14th and Rondebosch 18th, a negligible difference when there are so many schools in South Africa playing enthusiastic rugby to a high level.

Rondebosch have played 16 matches, winning 10 and losing six. They have played seven times against schools ranked in the Top 20.
Bishops have played 14 matches, winning nine and losing five, including one to the province of Leinster on their Ireland tour. They have played against six teams ranked on the Top 20.

When Rondebosch and Bishops met in the second term, Bishops won 36-26
