Boishaai power WP Schools
Paarl Boys' High, ranked the No.1 school in South Africa on the FNB Top 20, has 16 players in the three Western Province schools team announced on Tuesday for the Under-18 Craven Week, the Academy Week and the Grant Khomo Week – seven in the Craven Week side, two in the Academy Week side and seven in the Grant Khomo Week team for Under-16 players.
After Boys' High come Paarl Gim with eight and Paul Roos with seven.
There were six players available in the Western Province who had been in last year's Craven Week. Five made the side this year – loose forward MZ David's, lock Ruben de Villiers, hooker Shane Farmer, speedy Ryan Muller and Jondré Williams. The sixth, prop JP Smith of Bishops will be going to the Academy Week this year.
There are players who were at the Academy Week in 2014 and will go to Craven Week this year – wing Joshua Vermeulen, flank Johan Visser, and prop Carlu Sadie. Then there are two who were at the Grant Khomo Week last year and are going to Craven Week this year – lock Salmaan Moerat and flyhalf Damian Willemse.
The two Paarl Boys' High locks, Ruben de Villiers and Salmaan Moerat, are as big a locking combination as you will ever see in a school boy team. And Moerat, a member of a great Paarl rugby family, is only in Grade 11.
Some other 2014 Grant Khomo Week players are set to go to the Academy Week this year – Brandon de Kock, flanks Charl Serdyn and Athi Magwala, lively Liam Larken and Wian van Zyl.
