Brandwag put Kingswood away

Brandwag scored nine tries to two in a convincing 51-14 victory over Kingswood College in their schools rugby match on Saturday, 11 May.

Brandwag flyhalf Malcolm Jaer scored three and fullback Nicholas Lourens two tries. Captain Elandré van der Merwe, scrumhalf  Brandon O'Neill and prop Erich de Jager were the other try scorers for the home side.

Kingswood opened the scoring when outside centre Cameron Hertz pounced on the ball after a kick was charged down. Minutes later left wing James Chungu broke away for Kingswood's second try.

Kingswood's inside centre Davron Cameron converted both tries and Brandwag found themselves 14-0 down after only 5 minutes of play.

After consistent pressure Jaer scored Brandwag's first try in the twelfth minute.

Van der Merwe's try was next and in the nineteenth minute O'Neill dived over from a ruck close to the line. Brandwag took the lead 19-14 and from there the traffic went one way. Jaer and Lourens each ran in a try to give Brandwag a 29-14 lead at the break.

In the second half lock Stefan Janse van Vuuren scored the first of four tries in the fifteenth minute after the Brandwag attack quickly changed direction. The other second half tries were scored by Lourens, De Jager and Jaer.

Jaer succeeded with two conversions before handing the place kicking duties to Lourens after sustaining an injury in scoring his second try. Lourens missed all but the last conversion.
