Brandwag win FNB Clash

Match report

Springs Technical High School's first rugby team suffered a 43-0 thrashing at the hands of Brandwag High School in the FNB Clash on Saturday.

Springs hosted the clash, which saw the home side succumb to their opponents' pressure in an embarrassing defeat.

Brandwag played an excellent game and proved they are a strong team on the field, despite Springs's efforts. The home team's defence was lacking and unfortunately they were sore losers as two of their players were sent off the field for punching the opposition.

The field was packed with parents and friends supporting the two teams and the crowd was certainly not let down by Brandwag.

In the first half Brandwag's André Strydom scored the first try. Gerardt Weingartz managed one conversion but missed two in this half. Brandwag scored another try through Roger de Villiers, putting them in a 12 point lead over Springs's zero.

Springs couldn't close the gap in a scoreless second half but Brandwag stormed over the try-line five more times. Emile Koekemoer scored two tries, Riaan Sheriff scored two and Bokkie Hiten scored a try for the visitors. Weingardts succeeded with three conversions.

Koekemoer was selected as man of the match for Brandwag, while Springs' captain, Vincent Mqwa was awarded the man of the match title for the home side.
