Cameron Anthony - Captain of PBHS
Cameron Anthony, the son of renowned schoolboy coach Paul Anthony, will captain Pretoria Boys High School in Saturday’s FNB Classic Clashes encounter against King Edward VII School of Johannesburg.
It is not surprising, then, that many of Anthony’s rugby heroes – hookers John Smit and Chiliboy Ralepelle – were coached by his father at the selfsame Pretoria Boys High, although he also lists Pierre Spies as a rugby hero.
Cameron grew up watching the likes of Smit and Ralepelle and says it was easy for him to look up players who were mentored by his father.
But, of course, Saturday is all about the present and the Pretoria Boys outside centre – who is in his second year of First XV rugby – is really looking forward to the encounter against KES.
“It’s a big one,” admits Anthony to classicclashes.co.za, “there’s a lot of tradition between these two sides and we’d love nothing more than the win.”
Saturday’s match will be Pretoria Boys’ first serious encounter of 2012.
There have been practice matches, internally, but Cameron says his team is ready.
Looking ahead to next year, Cameron will make a decision on his future depending on how this season goes for his team (and himself).
He is toying with the idea of taking a gap year or, perhaps, studying – being involved in yachts or boats being one of his interests.
It does seem likely, however, that rugby will somehow feature in Cameron’s future.
“I’m really not looking too far ahead,” he says. “For now, especially, it’s all about Saturday’s match against KES.
“They’re a very good team and we’re all looking forward to the match.”
