Cameron Calder - Captain of SACS

Cameron Calder is proving to be an inspirational leader of the 2012 SACS First XV.

Leading from the front at practices and in matches he does not easily accept defeat and has instilled that same passion in his charges.

Cameron captains the SACS First XV against Wynberg this Saturday in an FNB Classic Clash.

Cameron has been at SACS since Grade 1 and is now in Grade 12 and a school prefect. He played every game for the First XV in 2011 barring the final game of the season against Wynberg. Cameron is a hard-working, nuggety scrumhalf who stands back for no-one. He is a very good defender and has an accurate pass. A feature of his game is his cover defence which has saved his team a few tries already this season.

SACS are in the midst of a solid season and Cameron is happy with the performance of his team. He may still be hurting from a missed opportunity to beat the No.1 ranked team in the country Paarl Gim last week, but he has turned his attention closer to home and this weekend’s FNB Classic Clash. Having beaten close neighbours and rivals Rondebosch and Bishops already this term his team will go in search of the Southern Suburbs 'Triple Crown' on Saturday.

Cameron loves his rugby and although upset at not being selected for any of the Western Province teams he quickly put that behind him and began focussing on his team’s performance.

He is mature enough to know that if his team plays well so will he. Having access to an EU passport, Cameron has been in touch with some of the teams at the U20 World Cup and he will be heading over to the UK for trials after his matric exams.

Cameron has played in enough of these local derbies to know that it will come down to small margins on Saturday. The forward exchanges, the battle at the breakdown and generally the team that makes the fewer mistakes and wants it more on the days usually comes out on top.

He will leave no stone unturned to make sure that his team is the one that wins all those small battles on Saturday!
