Captain's Profile: Carl Heydenrych
The Worcester Gimnasium captain will still be coming off the high of being selected for the Boland Craven Week side when his team takes on Drostdy in their FNB Classic Clash on Saturday.
It is one of the biggest games in the Boland and both sides will be hoping they can produce the rugby that will get them a win on the day.
For Heydenrych this match is more than just any other game.
"Last year we drew 15-15 and we have not won this match in about eight years so it is extra special for us.
"It is a huge game for us and I think that we have prepared extra hard for this game and our minds are in the right place at the moment," he added.
Being selected for any provincial side is always an honour and Heydenrych is incredibly proud of his performance that got him the call up to the Boland side.
"I just found out that I have been selected for the Boland Craven Week side.
"The last time I played provincial rugby was when I made the EP Under-13 side," said Heydenrych.
Becoming a captain of a team always places a certain amount of pressure on you as a player and Heydenrych says that the pressure was a little difficult to deal with but he has come to terms with it.
"Becoming captain has put more pressure on me and I have had to change my game a bit and become calmer on the field so I can lead by example," he mentioned.
It has been a relatively tough season for the Worcester side and they have had some tough results but when they head out onto the field on Saturday previous results count for nothing.
"Our season has not gone as well as we would have liked. We have had some hard losses but have also had one or two good wins which has been encouraging," the captain said.
The battle up front is going to be crucial and Heydenrych believes that that is where Drostdy are going to attack them hardest.
"They have a massive pack of forwards and outweigh us by quite a lot but we have got a good backline and that is how we are going to counter them," he added.
