Captain's profile: CJ Lombard

Gill College captain CJ Lombard will provide his team with the necessary grunt when they face Cradock on Thursday.

Lombard, who captained the Academy Week team last year and is one of three Gill players selected to play Craven Week rugby this year, is a traditional number eight who relishing getting stuck in and taking it to the opposition.

“I enjoy doing the dirty work and making the hard yards. You won’t easily find me standing in the backline, I like the touch physical exchanges,” said Lombard.

He said the focus this week has been fine-tuning their game plan rather than speculate what Cradock will bring to the table. “We focus on ourselves rather than them and make sure we’re fully prepared for the match.”

Lombard added that they will be at full-strength for the match. “We don’t have any injury problems and we have been in good form as of late.

“We had a bit of a hiccup last weekend but generally we’ve finished the season strongly and will go out for one last win on Thursday.

“It’s going to be a hard game, they are never easy to beat, but we have a very fast backline and like to play at a high pace which should test their defence.”
