Captain’s profile: Daniel Bantom

Hawston captain Daniel Bantom believes heart and determination are key qualities required to succeed in the game.

“No guts, no glory,” said the 19-year-old eighthman, who nears the end of his three-year first XV career.

“You have to go beyond the limits,” said Bantom, who like most schoolboy players hope to play for the Springboks one day.

He’s been a crucial member of the Hawston first team for the past three years and this vast experience, coupled with his speed and size at the back of the scrum, makes him the ideal man to captain the team in Saturday’s FNB Classic Clash against Swartberg.

“It’s been great and an honour to captain Hawston,” he said. “I’ve tried to lead by example and our season has been good so far.

“They will be up for the task physicality but we’ve managed to beat them on a few occasions, we’re well prepared and at full strength.”
