Captain's profile: Dirk Louw
Hoër Volkskool captain Dirk Louw said he was lost for words when he was named captain of school's first team.
The big No.8 will lead his side out for their Classic Clash against Union High School on Saturday and he said they are ready for the challenge.
"Being named captain was an honour. I can't explain or put it in words how I felt," said Louw.
"I don't give up easily and I am strong in adversity. My philosophy as captain is that it is through the grace of God that gives you strength to achieve what you do."
Louw had a chance to play Academy Week rugby, which was an experience that helped him grow as a player.
"It was a privilege because it gave me the chance to progress more as player and to see how I can improve and learn more," he said.
The 17-year-old knows what to expect from Union as this will be Louw's second year with the school's first team.
"It has been pretty equal in term of results over the last few years and we are again expecting a first team standard of rugby this weekend.
"We a young team and we also have a good combination of speed strength and big build," he added.
Louw said his message to the team this week was that they should prepare themselves for the game and to also use the talent that God gave them.
The talented player hopes to get a qualification in Agriculture at the University of the Free State when he is done with school.
