Captain's profile: Donovan Lourens
Witteberg captain Donovan Lourens is confident that his team will be able to turn the tables on Bethlehem Voortrekker this weekend.
The speedy outside centre will lead an experienced outfit including 11 Matrics out on their home ground on Saturday in what he sees as a must-win match.
Having started the season well, Witteberg were hit by a number of injuries to key players, but they will be back at full-strength against Bethlehem Voortrekker which has Lourens feeling bullish about their prospects.
"The injured guys were able to rest and recover during the holidays so we will be able to give it a full go," he said.
Although they lost away from home last year, Lourens believes that their experience will help see them through this weekend.
"We had quite a bad team last year, but we have much more experience in the side this year and we will give it our best shot so I think we have a good chance," said the backline ace who represented the Griffons in Under 16 and U19 level.
Lourens, who plans to study teaching at NWU in Potchefstroom next year, does not know much about the opposition but his focus is on his own team and their standards.
"They are always a tough side, but we will try our best and hopefully that will see us through," he said.
