Captain's profile: Earl Maarman
Alexandria captain Earl Maarman is determined not to let his home crowd down when they host Ukhanyo in a FNB Classic Clash on Friday.
The speedy left wing has never lost a game against Ukhanyo, and after putting in so much hard work preparing for this game, he wants his team to show what they are capable of when the pressure is on this weekend.
"It is very exciting, there is a great vibe between the players and we are expecting a good crowd so it should be great," he enthused.
Alexandria have won two out of their three matches so far this season, but the Classic Clash on Friday will be their biggest test thus far.
"They are going to come hard at us, they have an obsession when they play against us so we will have to be at our best," he said.
Maarman is one of just three Matrics in the first team, but he has been impressed with the way the younger players have stepped up this year.
"We have been preparing since February so the guys are in peak physical condition, the youngsters are keeping up well and now we must just play well," he said.
Maarman plans to study Sports Management at NMMU next year and has his sights set on playing for the Madibaz in the Varsity Cup, but at this stage he will not let anything distract him from the big match against Ukhanyo.
