Captain's profile: Gavin Nel
Nel expects this latest Classic Clash to be no different and despite his team being under the pump with a few injuries, he feels Pietersburg has what it takes to claim the victory this time around.
"The season has been tough as we've had a lot of ups and downs. We are missing a lot of valuable players due to injury but, as a team, we always find a way to keep our heads up and work hard to achieve victory.
"The team is well balanced, containing experienced players as well as some younger team mates. We try to maintain equality in the team, not preferring some players to others.
"FNB Classic Clashes 2015 was an epic battle, ending in a draw with a score of 48-48. Both teams are working hard to prove themselves this year. I expect a closely contested match. I expect that they have been working hard but still feel confident that my team has the ability to be victorious this weekend.
"We need to ensure that we practise hard and don't underestimate our opponents because we have the ability to win," Nel said.
Pietersburg knows how to win big matches as they have been crowned Beeld Trophy champions on three occasions – 2012, 2013 and 2014 – and Nel's ability to think on his feet will go a long way to returning Pietersburg to that championship winning form.
"As a captain, I try to always maintain a positive attitude in the team. I am a quick thinker and never fold under pressure. But all of that means nothing because all the talent in the world won't take you anywhere without your teammates.
"It was unexpected [to be named captain] but a great honour nonetheless to be leading such a great team into such an important game. I will put in all it takes to do my team proud," he added.
The 18-year-old lock has previously represented the Limpopo Blue Bulls in the 2014 Grant Khomo Week and is using that experience to fuel the fire as he intends on pursuing a professional career in the sport.
