Captain's profile: Geor Malan

Outeniqua captain Geor Malan has warned his team not to confuse confidence with arrogance when they face Oudtshoorn this weekend.

Having beaten their rivals convincingly away from home last year, Outeniqua are hot favourites playing in front of their home crowd on Saturday, but Malan is refusing to take anything for granted.

"Oudtshoorn will be going big, and we know that they will be coming for us. The game will start with the score at 0-0; so we just have to build from there," he explained.

Malan leads a star-studded team that is ranked fourth in the country, and he believes their success this year has been down to the spirit in the team.

"The vibe in the team has been phenomenal, we are all friends so it has been a good season," he said.

The hard-working openside flank who models his game on Australian dynamo Michael Hooper recently returned from his second Craven Week where he played alongside his twin brother Remu and a host of their Outeniqua teammates for SWD.

Both Geor and SA Schools scrumhalf Remu have signed for the Bulls next year and will study at UP-Tuks with their sights set on playing in the Young Guns section of the Varsity Cup.

Remu is not fit to play in the big derby this weekend because of a knee injury, but Geor is confident that the team will be able to cope without him.

"Playing with my brother is always a pleasure but we will just play our normal game with the forwards keeping it steady up front to give some space for the backs to play with the ball in hand," he said.
