Captain's profile: Gordon-Wayne Plaatjies
Being the captain, inside centre and head boy doesn't seem to worry Graeme College pupil Gordon-Wayne Plaatjies.
The youngster has a mountain of responsibility but seems to take it all in his stride and is just looking forward to getting out onto the field when his team comes up against the local foe – St Andrews College.
Plaatjies has the advantage of being captain for his second year running which could prove invaluable as his experience will be a major assurance for his team.
Having started his rugby career back in Grade three at Oatlands Preparatory in Grahamstown, Plaatjies has played on the flank for as long as he can remember.
In an interesting move at the beginning of his matric year, the captain has been shifted from his familiar flank position to inside centre.
"I have been in the 1st XV for three years and played flank for two of them. This season I have moved to centre and I am enjoying it," Plaatjies mentioned.
His side had a great start to their 2013 season winning a number of games early on.
"We started really well this season and probably our best win came against Cambridge.
"This weekend is going to be different but that does not mean that we will prepare any differently, we treat this game the same as any other," the captain said.
Graeme will have the slight advantage of playing on their home turf this weekend but in such a small town it might not make too much of a difference.
"We hope that playing at home will help us but it is not something that we will be relying on," Plaatjies explained.
