Captain’s profile: Heinrich Myburg
Asherville captain Heinrich Myburg’s commitment sets him apart from most schoolboy rugby players.
Few are able to match the lock’s commitment both on and off the field. It’s a trait that sees him captain the first XV, of which he has been a member for the past three years, by example.
Such is his drive and dedication that he last year received the Most Committed First Team Player of the Year accolade.
“A committed team is a winning team,” says Myburg.
The athletic Myburg has great line-out skills, both as a jumper and organiser. He runs the set-piece with aplomb and has exhibited impressive leadership skills as skipper this season, guiding his team to a perfect eight from eight.
“It’s a great honour to captain the team, especially after two seasons as a member of the squad.”
Myburg’s team head into their biggest match of the season this weekend – the FNB Classic Clash against Spandau on Saturday.
He has fond memories of last year’s derby, when he led his team to victory in a man of the match performance, and wants to emulate that effort this weekend.
“Last year’s game was one of the highlights of my schoolboy career. It doesn’t get bigger than Saturday’s game and we can’t wait to face Spandau again.”
Myburg will attend NMMU from next year and hopes to play Varsity Cup rugby in 2014.
