Captain's profile: Jacques Viljoen
Sasolburg skipper Jacques Viljoen literally leads from the front in the No.1 jersey.
At 1.88m and 90kg, Viljoen fits the mould of the modern day loosehead – powerful, agile, mobile and a good technical scrummager.
The 17-year-old spearheads the scrum and the team as a whole and will captain his side in the FNB Classic Clash against rivals HTS Sasolburg on Saturday.
With two years of first team experience, Viljoen is well aware of the demands of first team rugby. He has passed the grade on the pitch and inspires his team mates with his high workrate.
Highlighting the Margate tour earlier this year as his best rugby experience to date, Viljoen says they aim to win the Valke trophy and play for the Beeld trophy this season.
“We have a strong team. We have good, strong forwards and lightning fast backs,” he says of the make up of the team.
Perhaps their biggest strength, however, is their determination, as Viljoen notes: “It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up and we play until the final whistle.”
He expects a fierce forward battle – one he is relishing. “It’s going to be a hard game, they have a big pack, so I’m looking forward to it,” says Viljoen, who plans to become a farmer.
