Captain's profile: Jayson Reinecke

Experienced Cambridge captain Jayson Reinecke is gearing up for a massive effort in his last game for his school against rivals Hudson Park this weekend.

The versatile Reinecke played hooker for Border at Craven Week in Polokwane this year, but he will be running out at No.8 on Saturday as his team look to get revenge for their defeat against Hudson Park earlier this season.

The Cambridge skipper made his first team debut in Grade 10 and has earned 43 caps since then, playing at hooker, flank and No.8 which he believes has made him a better player.

"Having played loose forward has helped my game at hooker as I am a bit better in the loose and I can act like a fourth loose forward," he explained.

Reinecke says that he has enjoyed the experience of leading the team this year, despite some tough results along the way.

"We have not been on the best side in terms of results this year but we have a really talented group of guys. It is the first time that I have been captain and it has been challenging at times but I have enjoyed it a lot," he said.

As one of six Matrics in the forward pack, Reinecke knows that the senior players will have to step up this weekend if they are to beat Hudson Park.

Matches between the two schools are usually quite close and he expects no different in his final game this weekend.

"It is nice to have some experience in the engine room – our one prop has 60 caps for the first team so we will try to keep to our structures and hopefully the scoreboard will take care of itself," he said.

Reinecke plans to head to NMMU in Port Elizabeth next year and hopes to play Varsity Cup, but for now his focus is on travelling to Hudson Park and ending his high school career with a win.
