Captain's profile: Johan Barnes
The 18-year-old Grade 12 learner has been part of his school's first team for two years now and knows a lot about their Queenstown rivals.
"Aliwal North are a very clever and tactical team so we have to bring our A game and play smart rugby," said Barnes
"That was my message to the team that they should play their best rugby and do what we trained on the field.
"We had a tough season so far but we have shown that we can play good rugby."
Barnes said his school means a lot him and he is proud to lead the team out on the field.
"Being named captain of the school's first team is a huge honour for me because I am proud of the jersey and I am proud of the school.
"As a captain I always aim to be an example on and off the field," he added.
The 1,85m. 90kg prop said the highlight of his career so far was when he led his school's Under-15 side to victory over Queens College in 2012.
He describes himself as a player who likes to play the game hard as he wants to set an example for the rest of the team.
Barnes has plans to further his education at one of the country’s top schools when he matriculates.
"Next year I want to study Human Resource Management at the Kovsies [University of the Free State]," he said.
