Captain's Profile: Johan Dettmann
HS Lichtenburg will be looking to emulate last year's FNB Classic Clash performance against HS Klerksdorp when the teams come to blows on Saturday.
The matches between the sides have always been tightly contested and captain Johan Dettmann believes his young side can continue their current unbeaten run and add the old enemy's name to the list.
"We haven't had the greatest start to the season but we have managed to win our last five matches and we are pretty positive about the remainder of the season. We are a young group of player, with only five of us who played last year and fortunately, we don't have any major injury concerns and will field our strongest possible team.
"We have played against them on three occasions last year, so we know the type of rugby they play and what they are all about. We know they are very physical, strong and well-rounded team who will come at us and give us a very hard match. We have some confidence going into the match and know we can emulate last year's achievement when we beat them in the FNB Classic Clash," he said.
The 18-year-old packs down at the back of the scrum and has had a taste of Craven Week in the seven-man game and believes he brings out the best of his team mates through leading by example.
"Playing in the Craven Week Sevens tournament was hard but very enjoyable at the same time because I got to learn a lot of new things. I am the type of captain who leads from the front and sets a positive example for the team to follow.
"To be named captain of the first XV is a massive honour and I feel so blessed to lead such a dynamic group of players. My strength is that I possess speed, have a good understanding of how to execute skills in the contact areas and I have a good knowledge of the game itself," he added.
Dettmann hopes to study when he leaves school and pursue a professional career to hopefully find himself playing at a big provincial union one day.
