Captain's profile: Keagan Sparks
Northwood captain Keagan Sparks is expecting a tight encounter when they face Kearsney in their Classic Clash on Saturday.
The flank, who has two years first team experience, says he knows what to expect from the team from Botha's Hill based on past matches.
"Kearsney have always gone in as favourites each time we play. They were our first game up last year and it was a close affair," said Sparks.
"They have had a great season so far, so we all know the challenge that lies ahead, more so, we are excited for it.
"Also being a young side we expect a high tempo game from them. I think we play similar styles so will be an exciting game."
The weekend's Classic Clash will be a new experience for most of the Northwood players, but Sparks does not want his team to get distracted with the attention associated with it.
We don't have much experience. This will most likely be one of the biggest moments for a lot of us.
"We have had many injuries, which has not helped with consistency, however they all back now barring one or two key players, which is expected at this stage of any season.
"My message to my team was that they should forget the cameras and just play for the badge and each other," he added.
The 1.86m, 90kg matriculant is also upbeat about the leadership role that was bestowed on him.
"The highlight of my career is representing my first team and it was pretty cool being named captain.
"My strengths as a player and captain is my ball carrying and work rate. I am also level head. My philosophy as captain is to lead by example," Sparks explained.
Sparks aims to make it far in the game of rugby when he is done with school.
