Captain’s profile: LC Uys
Driehoek captain LC Uys believes his team’s experience will stand them in good stead in Saturday’s FNB Classic Clash against Dr Malan in Meyerton.
“I’m one of 13 players who are playing their second year of first team rugby. We are very motivated and we play as a team,” says strong, hard-hitting centre Uys.
Uys says his experience playing for the Valke has helped him to grow as a player and a leader.
“It was great to play in competitions like Craven Week, to compete against top teams and to be a part of such a talented group of players.”
He adds: “The highlight of my career to date was beating HTS Vereeniging in a hard-fought quarterfinal.”
As a leader, Uys believes that hard work in training pays off on the field and puts an emphasis on playing as a team rather than a group of individuals.
“I’m proud that I can lead such talented players and see it as a big responsibility to make sure every member in the squad is happy and motivated to give his all for the team.
“As captain, I want us to play to our potential and reach the final and that starts in what should be a hard and physical game against Dr Malan this weekend.”
Uys plans to study towards a chartered account degree at UP-Tuks next year where he also hopes to take the next step in his budding rugby career and compete in athletics.
