Captain's profile: Lebo Mdakane
Treverton captain Lebo Mdakane is expecting a fantastic atmosphere when he leads his side out at home against local rivals Weston in their FNB Classic Clash on Saturday.
The burly front rower was part of the Treverton side that won at Weston last year, and he is expecting a fierce backlash in a clash which will be attended by every pupil from both schools.
"It is normally a tough derby game against Weston so we will have to stick to our guns if we want to beat them. It is always a pleasure playing in front of our home crowd and with both schools there it should be really loud," he said.
The Treverton head boy started his high school rugby career as a hooker, but was moved to tighthead prop once he broke into the first team last year, and he is expecting a physical test up front against a fired-up Weston outfit.
Treverton have had some mixed results this year, beating Alex convincingly and then going down to Grantleigh, but that will count for little when they seek to make it a hat-trick of victories over Treverton this weekend.
The Treverton side has just five Matrics in the starting XV, and while their experience will be crucial, the skipper is also hoping that the hunger and enthusiasm of the Grade 11s plays a decisive role against their old enemies.
After getting a closer look at some of the Weston players at the KZN Country Districts trials earlier in the week Mdakane is under no illusion about what will be required on Saturday.
"We have a pretty strong pack so we will look to get over the advantage line first by crashing it up and winning some quick ball for our backline who can be quite dangerous," he explained.
