Captain's profile: Lee-Curt Maasdorp
George captain Lee-Curt Maasdorp is expecting a capacity crowd for his team's FNB Classic Clash with rivals Pacaltsdorp this weekend.
The lanky lock was part of the George side that beat Pacaltsdorp 15-0 last year, and he is expecting the home supporters in George to come out in their numbers when the sides do battle on Saturday.
Maasdorp is no stranger to the leadership role as he captained the Under-16 team in Grade 10 and then took the reins of the first team last year when the regular skipper got injured.
He has enjoyed leading the side this year and has been happy with their performances as they have lost just three games.
Maasdorp believes that their success is down to a good balance between youth and experience, and their commitment on the field.
"We have had some good Grade 11s coming through who are playing well and building experience. The team's biggest strength is the fact that we hold nothing back and give everything out on the field," he explained.
The George captain expects to see more of this fighting spirit on display this weekend when they face Pacaltsdorp who he believes will provide a stern test for his side.
"They are a good team and we expect them to fight hard so it should be a good game," he said.
The George captain is studying teaching at NMMU next year and hopes to play for the Madibaz in the Varsity Cup, with his ultimate goal to teach and coach rugby at high school.
