Captain's profile: Lulamile Kama
Weston College captain Lulamile Kama aims to unite his team as they prepare for their Classic Clash with Treverton College on Saturday in the thrilling Mooi River derby.
The experienced Hooker is enjoying his second year in the Weston first XV and feels inspired after he was named as skipper for the season.
"I am excited, challenged and know that I have to inspire and lead by example." said Kama.
The front row forward, who stands in at 178cm and weighs 80kg, has represented KZN at the Under-13 Craven Week, and has since represented the KZN development teams at U15 and U16 level giving him a wealth of experience at a high level.
"It was a really good experience, especially the Craven Week, we bonded well."
It will be a tough encounter on Saturday and Kama is expecting Treverton to come to the party by delivering a good performance in this much anticipated Classic Clash.
"We are expecting a hard, physical match, Treverton will bring their 'A' game to a match like this," added Kama.
Weston will have a full contingent with no injuries for Saturday, and according to Kama, the Weston side is full of experience, pace and strength.
"Saturday`s team is very experienced and motivated, We have power up front and speed in the backline."
Kama's philosophy as captain is to unite his team and build a spirit amongst the boys. He strives to play to win, but not win at all cost, and his message to his team is: " Whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability, basics first, basics done well! The rest will follow."
Kama believes his strengths as a captain lie in his motivation, attacking game-play, and by getting stuck-in leading from the front.
"I am a good leader, I can motivate my team and I am an attacking player who enjoys being in the thick of the action. I lead by example," said Kama.
Kama plans to take his rugby further after school and has ambitions of playing for the Sharks and the Springboks one day.
"I will carry on with rugby after school and hope to represent the Sharks and the Springboks."
