Captain's profile: Maurizio Fillies
Kasselsvlei skipper Maurizio Filies is expecting a "tough, hard encounter" when his team faces Bellville South this weekend.
The hard-working flank, who models his game on legendary All Blacks captain Richie McCaw, knows that the big Bellville South forward pack are sure to take the game to his team when they meet in their FNB Classic Clash on Saturday.
"We expect a tough, hard encounter. They will be playing an intimidating game relying strongly on their forwards. Their forwards are their strength," he said.
Although Bellville South have historically had the upper hand in the Classic Clashes down the years, with four victories to Kasselsvlei's two, Filies is confident that his side can rise to the ocassion.
This season we’ve done exceptionally well and won three games out of four. To win the game on Saturday, we need to focus on our game plan, play together as a team and play by the rules. The team that makes the least mistakes will win the game," he explained.
Filies has been in the first team since last year and is enjoying the challenge of leading the side.
The dynamic loose forward plans to study sports administration at UWC next year and intends to continue playing rugby at club level for Bellville Rugby Club.
