Captain's profile: Michael Hansen

Brackenfell High captain Michael Hansen possesses all the qualities necessary to thrive as a loosehead prop in the modern game.

Hansen stands 1.82m tall, weighs 103kg and is a tactical scrummager of note. Crucially, though, he backs up his set-piece prowess with strong ball-carrying and desired mobility across the field.

A motivational captain to boot, Hansen, who hopes to play for Durbell’s Under-20s next year, believes Brackenfell High’s First XV have gone from strength to strength this season.

“Being a young and inexperience team that includes ten Grade Elevens, we struggled in the beginning [of the season] against the more experienced sides, but we started to improve and we are finally a strong, dedicated and committed team,” he says.

Looking to Saturday’s season finale against Tygerberg, Hansen says he expects a physical game up front and a running game from the backline.

“My message to the guys this week is not to get distracted by everything going on around them and to stay focused for the big one on Saturday. With God all is possible.”
