Captain's profile: Mihan Fourie
The Fourie household will be divided when Oudtshoorn captain Mihan Fourie leads his side out to face Outeniqua this weekend.
Fourie's older brother Marius, who is currently in the Leopards' Currie Cup first division squad, attended Outeniqua, which has added another element to this already tense derby for the Oudtshoorn skipper.
The hard-working hooker was on the bench last year when Oudtshoorn lost heavily at home, and he has the task of leading them as they seek revenge away from home on Saturday.
Fourie is well-aware that his side go into the match as underdogs, but he has faith in the commitment and passion of his team.
"We only had one player at Craven Week and one at the Academy Week this year and we are up against the fourth-ranked side in the country so it will be tough.
"But we want to show what we can do and if we are being written off then it gives us extra motivation to prove people wrong," he explained.
Fourie missed the Craven Week trials due to an ankle injury, but he hopes to follow in his brother's footsteps by attending NWU in Potchefstroom and playing in the Varsity Cup for Pukke, but his focus is on the task at hand against an impressive Outeniqua outfit.
"We know what we are up against, but we will give it everything this weekend. They may have some good individuals but we will play like a team and stick to our gameplan so hopefully that will see us through," he said.
The combative hooker who prides himself on his work at the breakdown said that he "will never forget" the last time Oudtshoorn beat Outeniqua.
"It was in 2010 and I was in Grade 9. The video of that last kick going over is still used by the school so it would be amazing to be a part of something like that," he said.
