Captain's profile: Mornay Smith

Eldoraigne have claimed three successive victories in the recent past and it will be up to Smith to lead his charges to claim another victory in his second Classic Clash of his schooling career.

However, history counts for nothing when bragging rights are on the cards and Smith knows that his young side will be up against it when they travel to Zwartkop.

"We are a young side but are backed by a few experienced players who know what this fixture is all about. Those of us who have played against them [Zwartkop] before knows that it is an incredibly tough match.

"Not only on the field, but the significance of the encounter adds to the intensity. We are not going to fool ourselves into thinking this will be an easy game to win because we fully understand that they are a very big challenge.

"We may have won the last three Classic Clashes against them but that does not mean that they will just hand us the win once again. It is something we will need to work hard to achieve but that will mean that we would need to remain focussed on ourselves and stick to our game plan.

"Over and above all of that, we still need to ensure that we enjoy the match and the occasion," Smith said.

The 18-year-old lock has played in the Craven Week before and that experience of interacting with other players stands out as the highlight of his brief playing career. Added to this is the immense responsibility of leading his team to uphold Eldoraigne's tradition of dominating the result.

"We have had our ups and downs this season thus far but I know that if I continue to lead by example, we should be able to grind out a result that will keep our traditional dominance alive. Form does not count for anything in this fixture because anyone can win on the day," he added.

Once he has completed his schooling career, Smith has big plans of becoming an international player.
