Captain's profile: Ruben Nortjie
Hoërskool Cradock captain Ruben Nortjie says the highlight of his career so far was being selected to be part of his school's first team squad for 2015.
He has played ten games for the first team already, however, Saturday's Classic Clash against Gill College will arguably be the biggest game of his career so far.
"The competition has always been tough and there is a good interaction between the schools," said Nortjie.
“It has been a rough season with some ups and downs.
“We have a few injuries and we struggled with personal problems in the team which forced us to make some changes, but along the line we started to get our team back together. We have a young team with eight experienced players with the rest coming from Under-16."
The scrumhalf, who is only in Grade 11, knows what is expected of him as a captain.
"I feel truly honoured and proud to be named captain.
"I have learned that to be a good captain you have to be a good follower. My strengths as player is kicking at poles and fast cleaning at the breakdowns," he added.
Nortjie's message to his team this week was that they should feed off the positives and focus on the fundamentals.
When asked what his plans for the future was, Nortjie only had one thing on his mind.
"Sport has always been my dream and I would like to move in a sporting direction," he said.
