Captain's profile: Sibanye Bukani
Dale College captain Sibanye Bukani underlined his leadership capabilities at this year’s Craven Week.
Bukani was handed the responsibility of captaining an understrength Border side due to the Border Rugby Union’s controversial decision to omit players who have committed themselves to other unions after school from their Craven Week squad.
Like a consummate professional, Bukani put his personal opinion on the matter aside and handled the added pressure with aplomb.
“It was obviously not ideal playing without up to eight first-choice players, but we had a job to do and just played rugby even though we knew it was not the correct choice Border made regarding those contracted players,” said Bukani.
The talented midfielder will once again lead out a team missing key players when Dale face Queen’s College on Saturday.
“We are missing three players. Our scrumhalf, flyhalf and wing,” he said.
“We have had a very good season and we beat them 7-3 in King William’s Town and 38-31 in Queenstown last year but we’re expecting a very tough game,” said Bukani.
