Captain's Profile: Tiaan Vorster
Boasting Craven Week experience, HS Ben Vorster captain Tiaan Vorster is looking forward to a hard, physical match against traditional rivals HS Pietersburg in a Classic Clash on Saturday.
The flank feels he is a good link between the forwards and the backs as they need to display an all-round performance if they are to be successful when the final whistle blows.
"It's always hard and close matches when we play against each other. Over the last 2 years, both sides have managed to grab a win so there is a lot to play for on Saturday.
"They have a heavy pack of forwards and good pair of centres but it is nothing we can't handle. We must believe in ourselves, not stand back and make sure we win the game up front. It is definitely going to be a tough game for us because we are missing a few players through injury but we are still well balanced between 'old' and 'young' players," he said.
Participating in the 2014 Craven Week was a massive honour for Vorster as it afforded him a chance to learn new things and meet new people while still being able to give his best.
18-year-old, Grade 12 pupil feels being handed the captaincy allows him to build his own legacy – which is a massive privilege and honour.
"Being named captain is a huge honour and privilege and I feel like I now have some time to build a 'legacy' for myself. I feel that I can do that because I know how to work with players and I make sure I put the team first.
"It is my job to secure good line-out ball and make a nuisance of myself in loose play. This allows me to link well with the backline by providing them with good front-foot ball. I love giving it my best week in and week out and I look to lead by example and help wherever I can," he added.
Vorster hopes to study Engineering when he leaves school while still being involved in the game through playing for a Koshuis and breaking into a University's Varsity Cup team.
