Captain's profile: Vuyo Jam
Aliwal Noord first XV captain Vuyo Jam is hunting a hat-trick of FNB Classic Clash victories over Hangklip in Queenstown on Saturday.
As line-out kingpin and experienced first team player, Jam leads his side in more ways than one.
The second row forward stands 1.86m tall and uses his athleticism to not only secure his own set-piece ball, but also snatch ball on the opposition’s throw.
In his third year as first team player, Jam has become a talisman and brings much-needed experience and composure to the side this year.
Jam, who played Academy Week rugby in 2011 and 2012, said he’d like nothing more than to lead his team to victory this weekend.
“It’s a great privilege and I’m really proud to captain the first XV,” said Jam.
“Playing in the Academy Week was a wonderful experience and learning curve, one of the highlights of my schoolboy rugby career.
“As captain I aim to lead by example and keep my players calm and I’m determined to win one last FNB Classic Clash and my last inter-schools match.”
Jam added that his team will leave it all out on the field and expect a tough battle.
The 18-year-old plans to study geography and continue his rugby career next year.
