Captain's profile: Wian Greeff
Gill College captain Wian Greeff wants to finish the local league on high this year with a win over rivals Hoërskool Cradock in their Classic Clash on Saturday.
Gill have won the last three interschools meetings between the two sides and Greeff would like to make it four in a row by the time the final whistle sounds.
"It has been a good season so far for us, with only two league losses. We look to finish on a high this weekend," said Greeff.
"We have quite a young group of players this year and we are missing a few first-choice players due to injury, but we have the depth in all those positions."
Being captain of the first team at Gill College is something that Greeff always hoped he would achieve.
"It is a great honour and privilege being named captain. It is something I have dreamt about from a very young age.
"I lead by example and allow every player to express themselves on the rugby field. I take others opinions into consideration and I communicate well with my team," Greeff added.
The 18-year-old flyhalf's highlight of his career so far involves Cradock in his Under-16 year. That was when his side beat them 57-0.
However, Greeff is wary of the threats the senior team poses this time around.
"They are a team that plays with a lot of pride and passion and they will come hard at us. It is always different in a derby match," says Greeff.
Greeff also has a bright future planned for himself after school.
"I am going to study Chartered Accounting at North West University next year and hopefully play a bit of Koshuis rugby.
"But at the end of the day I want to be a farmer like my father," he added.
