CC: Bellville South vs Kasselsvlei

If the past is anything to go by, this Northern Suburbs FNB Classic Clash will again be a tense and close affair.

In 2010 Kasselsvlei won 15-13; in 2011 Bellville-South won 15-13.

If you look at this year's results, Bellville South have probably been having a better season but come a derby and a big crowd at Rosina Paarwater Stadium and the past flies out the window. Anything can happen on such a day.

Rosina Paarwater was a wonderful woman, the heart and soul of the Bellville South Club and Western Province League activities, the mother of a wonderful rugby family. But then as a Croy she came from a wonderful rugby family, and there is a Croy on the bench for Kasselsvlei in this match.

Three Kasselsvlei players were invited to Western Province trials – wing T Jacobs, centre C Goodman (Kasselsvlei) and flank B Croy. Bellville South had none invited.

But Bellville South have more players back from last years Classic Clash, which they won – centre Gradon Maxim, fullback Nigel Giddion, who was at flyhalf last year, scrumhalf Jason Cloete, all three loose forwards in eighthman Wayne Marthinus and flanks Ralton Booysen and Dyllin Howley, locks Jason Jarvis and Kyle Arendse and props Sabastian Prins and Zanhdré Jansen. Only this year's hooker was not in that victorious pack.

Kasselsvlei have six back – centre Danion Hendricks, wing Nathan Olain, fullback Le Roy van Schalkwyk, who was at flyhalf last year, lock Chadley Jones and hooker Keadon Consul. Prop Jason Lawrence played last year but is on the bench this year.

The weight of experience is heavily on Bellville South's side.
