CC: Rooibulle just win great game
In their FNB Classic Clash, HTS Middelburg beat Hoërskool Middelburg 30-27 with a late try in a magnificent match, regarded as one of the best seen for years.
The Hoërskool backline was outstanding, especially the centres, Jacques le Roux and Erard van den Heever. They left the Rooibulle, in their home kraal, an uphill battle in the second half to win the match. At one stage they were down 22-12.
The home side looked set for a comfortable victory as they took a 12-0 lead and then in the flash of an eye the Middies scored three tries.
In the second half the home pack got on top. A penalty and a try brought them on level terms with their visitors.
With just a few minutes remaining wing Ruan du Plooy powered his way over with several defenders clinging to him.
The match was a thriller. Also thrilling was the spirit of the day- the manners and sporting spirit of pupils and parents. That included all the rugby matches, the netball and hockey.
