CC: Tralies surprise JF

Hoërskool Sentraal probably went into their FNB Classic Clash with Hoërskool Jim Fouché as underdogs. They came out of it with a comfortable 33-13 victory.

It was a wonderful Saturday in Bloemfontein – warm and sunny, and there was a carnival atmosphere for the 3,000 or so spectators who were privileged to see an attractive match of running rugby.

Tralies, as Sentraal are called, dominated the forward exchanges and their defence was powerful. The newspaper report said that Tralies had played JF off the field.

By half-time the home side had built up a healthy 18-3 lead.

The outstanding players for the home side were flank Stefan Kruger who was all over the field and impressed with his strong ball-carrying, lively hooker Ryno Gerber, and flank Rulof Keyser with his hard work at the breakdowns.

Scrumhalf Juandré van den Berg was the outstanding back, flyhalf DP de Lange, wing Brendon Kahts and fullback Tom Deetlefs were the outstanding backs. Deetlefs goaled a penalty from 55m out and kicked a drop-goal.

Sentraal won the other A matches – Under-16A (32-27), Under-15A (8-5) and Under-14A (12-10).
