Classic Clash Excitement in Alex
Excitement rose skyhigh in Alexandria when Ukhanyo High School won their FNB Classic Clash on Friday afternoon against neighbours Alexandria High School for the first time – in fact for the first time in 20 years.
The victors came from behind to gain the spoils. It was a surprise victory.
The ground at Alexandria High School was packed with excited spectators. The home side drew first blood when flank Luvuyo Ngene scored an unconverted try.
Ukhanyo reduced Alexandria's lead when centre Siyabulela Ntantiso goaled the first of his hat-trick of penalties. 5-3 after 17 minutes.
A penalty by Alexandria's fullback Flinn Cannon made the half-time score 8-3 in the home side's favour. But Alexandria did not score again.
In the second half the Ukhanyo pack dominated and Siyabulela Ntantiso kicked a penalty to make the score 8-6 and as the final whistle approached and Ukhanyo stayed on the attack, the excitement rose. Then three minutes before the final whistle Siyabulela Ntantiso kicked his third penalty to win the match.
The final whistle was greeted with wild enthusiasm by Ukhanyo supporters and quiet surprise by the Alexandria High community.
