Classic Clash in Petrol Capital

On Saturday there will be an FNB Classic Clash in Sasolburg between the Hoërskool and Hoër Tegniese Skool. It will evoke great enthusiasm.

There are three strong rugby schools in Sasolburg where South Africa turns coal into a petrol and other products – Afrikaanse Hoër, Hoërskool and HTS, whose are called the Spanners.

This match between HS and HTS is the 35 derby between the two schools the seventh FNB Classic Clash. Hoërskool have won four Classic Clashes, HTS two.

Last year Hoërskool won 69-13, a colossal victory. They went in as favourites but not by much but they ran the Spanners off their feet, and this year they have 12 of those players back –  wing  Jarred Dawson,  centre Tshiamo Sebolai, flyhalf Frikkie Oosthuizen, loose forwards Sean-Dean du Plessis and Katleho Baisang, lock Stefan Bester and prop Gustav Vogel who were all in the starting XV and five whop were on the bench in 2013 and are in the starting XV this year – hooker Francois Coetzee, 17 Johan Kok, lock Thaddeus van Onsselen, who is again on the bench, fullback Bongi Zwane and outside centre Wynand Meyer.

Season So Far

Hoërskool have been more adventurous, playing in the Tony Stoops Rugby Festival in the Cape. where they found it hard going against Paarl Boys' High and Tygerberg, both Top 20 Schools, and Piketberg who are probably the top side in the Boland. Those are the three matches they have lost while beating Goudveld, Overvaal, Afrikaanse Hoër and General Smuts.

The only match that the Spanners have lost was against Kroonstad's Blouskool but they have not played opposition as tough as the three who beat his.

Results against Common Opponents

Afrikaanse Hoër Sasolburg: HS beat them 52-3; HTS beat them 40-10

General Smuts: HSbeat them 47-5; HTS beat them 45-0

Overvaal: HS beat them 29-5; HTS beat them 54-10

The match is again this year at a neutral venue and is bound to attract a large eager crowd. Sasolburg will know about the match.
