Collage in good FNB Classic win
Match Report
In an FNB Classic Clash in Pietermaritzburg between two of South Africa's top-ranked teams Maritzburg College won a handsome 24-0.
Before this FNB Classic Clash Maritzburg College were ranked 14th and Glenwood 15th on the FNB Top 20. A closer encounter was expected.
On Old Boys’ Reunion Day, College faced a formidable challenge from a Glenwood team. A recent convincing victory over DHS showed just how dangerous a team they could be. But they seemed to leave their form in Durban.
After a storming start in which Glenwood moved the ball swiftly and accurately and College’s defences creaked under the pressure, the fire went out of their game. Their line-out work remained superb, but the rest of their game became listless and they seldom threatened.
College on the other hand, having survived the early testing, took a firm hold on the game. Without reaching the heights of their performance against Affies the previous week, they played sound rugby and were rewarded with three good converted tries and a penalty.
All three tries were the result of good driving play by the forwards and then quick movement of the ball by the backs.
The half-time score was only 7-0, but in the second half College recorded another seventeen unanswered points.
