Western Cape postpones school games due to extreme weather

PREVIEW: The extreme weather conditions in the Western Cape have necessitated the postponement of all upcoming fixtures this weekend.

Therefore the big clash scheduled between Bishops and Paarl Gym will take place at another stage as schools and clubs have been advised to arrange new fixture dates for the postponed matches.

Maritzburg College will have its hands full against Affies when the school schedule resumes on Saturday.

The respective national youth weeks have come to an end, and the school holidays are a thing of the past.

For most teams, the schedule will resume in earnest this Saturday.

@Rugby365com looks ahead to some of the biggest match-ups of the weekend.

MARITZBURG COLLEGE V AFFIES

College have struggled for consistency this season, winning five of their first seven matches, and then going on to win only three of the next seven.

That said, they have been more successful at home, winning four out of five games. They recently beat Hilton 26-20 and will take some confidence into the next clash against a powerful Affies side.

The visitors will start the match as favourites. They’ve won eight of their 11 matches, losing to form sides such as Paul Roos, Grey College, and Paarl Gym.

The boys from Pretoria are coming off a 52-26 win against KES – arguably the form side in Johannesburg this season.

MONUMENT V JEPPE

Monnas are unbeaten at home this year and have won eight out of 13 overall. Most recently, they thrashed Marais Viljoen 63-0 in the Noordvaal Cup.

Jeppe is enjoying a memorable season, though.

After claiming the prize scalp of Grey College in March, they stretched their streak to five games.

Losses against Affies and KES were followed by five further victories, including a 67-30 win over St Johns.

Up the road in Pretoria, Waterkloof will be looking to bounce back after drawing with EG Jansen.

The result brought an end to Waterkloof’s nine-game winning streak. They may be targeting the next match against Helpmekaar as an opportunity to set the record straight.
