Cor Steyn - HTS Potchefstroom's Captain
Yet another man who looks up to Os
HTS Potchefstroom are hosting Potchstroom Boys High in the local town derby on Saturday. On his birthday, Cor Steyn will be leading his team against the closest rivals. The match is another FNB Classic Clash.
Cor Steyn was born on 13 May 1988 in Carolina. He attended Handhawer Primary School in Vereeniging on the East Rand. He spent the first three years of his High School career at HTS Vereeniging where he played for the Under-14A, U15A and U16A teams respectively. His parents moved to Vrede and moved him to the hostel at HTS Potchefstroom in Grade 11. For the past year-and-a-half he has played tighthead prop forward for the first team and this year he captains the team. Coach John Bond rates Cor as an excellent leader.
Cor is hoping to make the Leopards Craven Week team this year and played in the Leopards trials this week. He scored the opening try of the match and is awaiting the results in anticipation. Cor has great admiration for the scrumming and general skills of Cheetahs and Bok prop Os Du Randt.
HTS Potchestroom have had an up-and-down season so far with a win over Wolmeranstad as the highlight to date. Cor considers the strength of his team as their ability to work together and their potent scrums. They have a good backline and if they can get the ball to the flanks he is adamant that victory will be theirs.
Cor plans to take his rugby career as far as possible and to that end has enrolled at the Potch University Rugby Institute for next year.
For now though, Cor could not wish for a better birthday present than a victory on Saturday!
