Cradock derby an FNB Classic Clash
Match preview
Cradock High play Marlow Landbou from just 10 km outside Cradock in an FNB Classic Clash on Saturday. It is a great occasion for the town.
A glance at the results below tells you that Marlow have dominated in recent years – a smaller school than Cradock High but one where rugby rules. Of 230 boys at the school, 200 play rugby in much the same was as happens at Boland Landbou. Last year produced a record victory of 58-3 for Marlow.
This year Marlow have played 16 matches, winning 10, drawing two and losing 4. Cradock have played 10, winning 5 and losing 5, even though this year Cradock have gone out with renewed vigour, practising four times a week and generally doing better than they have done in the last six years.
Marlow had seven players in the Eastern Province Country Districts team that went to the Academy Week in Upington – the whole front row of AJ Oelofse, Graeme Heyneke and Herman Kock, flank Jacques van der Westhuizen, eighthman Daniël Muller who captained the side, flyhalf Jan du Toit and fullback Stean Vorster. Of those seven Daniël Muller and Jan du Toit our out injured and will not play in the Interschools on Saturday.
Only Cradock High's captain Robert de Klerk was in the Eastern Province Country Districts team.
But then again a derby of this nature can certainly produce upsets.
