Flyhalf Tinus de Beer and fullback Eduan Keyter both notched tries, whilst KZN's only five-pointer came through scrumhalf James Hall.

The scores were level early in the second half as KZN No.8 Jaco Coetzee got over for their second try, but those were to be their last points of the match.

Outside centre Justin Heunis, scrumhalf Jondre Williams and wing Duncan Saal all crossed the whitewash in the first 20 minutes to give them a comfortable cushion and although Free State managed a try of their own before half-time, WP still took a commanding 22-10 lead into the break.

The teams traded tries in the second half, with Free State centre Julien Jordaan playing a central role as he collected two tries and a red card.
